Get Right Physio

Physiotherapy for Clients Who Undergo ACL, Rotator Cuff,
Spinal or Ankle Surgeries

Accelerate Your Recovery From ACL, Rotator Cuff, Spinal or
Ankle Surgeries With Tailor-Made Physiotherapy

If you’ve been feeling uneasy about an upcoming surgery for your ACL, rotator cuff, spine, or ankle, we here at Get Right Physio are here to quell some of those anxieties.

We are a physiotherapy service based in Toronto that works with satisfied clients daily to give people like you the best recovery outcomes after surgery.

Anyone recuperating after an ACL, rotator cuff, spinal, or ankle surgery should follow a personalized treatment plan crafted by one of our specialists to restore mobility, strength, coordination, and independence.

Start planning your post-surgery care by setting up a consultation with one of our compassionate and professional therapists, who will know what’s required to get your body back to its old self.

What Are ACL, Rotator Cuff, Spinal and Ankle Surgeries?

ACL, rotator cuff, spinal and ankle surgeries are four distinct procedures that are carried out to reduce pain and repair damage in specific parts of the body.

ACL refers to the anterior cruciate ligament, a tissue that’s found in the knee that connects the thigh and shin bones. Surgery is typically performed on the ACL if a complete or, in some cases, a partial tear occurs.

Your rotator cuff is a collection of muscles and tendons that support the shoulder joint and allow movement. Similar to ACL injuries, a tear in the rotator cuff often warrants surgery.

Spinal surgeries are necessary for a plethora of different reasons, and among the most common are to treat spine deformities, herniated disks, stenosis, and multiple other issues relating to the spine.

Ankles are among the most frequently injured parts of the body due to people hurting themselves when exercising. Surgery may be required to mend fractures, reduce arthritis pain, and treat damaged ligaments or tendons.

How Do We Use Physiotherapy to Treat ACL, Rotator Cuff, Spinal and Ankle Surgeries?

After you’ve successfully undergone ACL, rotator cuff, spine, or ankle surgery, your doctor will talk you through the recovery process you’ll complete to ensure optimum results.

This will include physiotherapy treatment, which usually begins within the weeks following the procedure, depending on the nature of the surgery and recommended healing times. We offer our physio services in houses and condos, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and retirement homes.

When you’re advised to start physical therapy, you’ll begin by meeting with one of your therapists to discuss how you’re feeling post-surgery, make note of any side effects, and partake in various assessments. The examinations your therapist will conduct will vary based on the type of surgery you’ve had but will usually involve checking for mobility, function, and flexibility in the affected area while also looking out for pain and swelling.

From here, your therapist will formulate a rehabilitation programme specific to your needs and expected progress. This plan will be multi-faceted and often consists of exercises to promote strength, balance, and coordination, as well as hot, cold, and massage therapies.

The key aims of physiotherapy for clients recovering from ACL, rotator cuff, spine, or ankle surgery include:

  • Restoring the full function of the affected area
  • Minimizing pain and swelling
  • Regaining strength and range of motion
  • Improving flexibility and agility

Benefits of Physiotherapy for ACL, Rotator Cuff, Spinal and Ankle Surgeries

Physiotherapy for ACL, rotator cuff, spine, or ankle surgeries offers a host of benefits, most notably in guiding clients through their journey to complete recovery. Some other benefits of this treatment include:

  • Physiotherapy allows clients to return to their daily lives through a smooth and gradual transition process. As you make gains during your treatment, you’ll steadily begin to introduce routine tasks and activities back into your life. Your therapist will help you to determine how and when to do this without setting your rehabilitation back.
  • Attending physiotherapy is the best chance to avoid further potential injuries and repeated damage. By increasing the strength and endurance of your muscles, joints, ligaments, and tendons during your physio sessions, you’ll lower your risk of additional or returning injuries.
  • You can enjoy a better quality of life through physiotherapy, as your therapist will work with you to bring down pain and discomfort. Moreover, you’ll develop strategies to combat pain when it does strike to deal with it effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions

Weight-bearing exercises may be introduced early in your physiotherapy programme, sometimes within the first week. That being said, such exercises will generally work on tolerating minimal weight, which will slowly increase as you become stronger.

It’s important to note that, outside of your physiotherapy sessions, you should avoid weight-bearing activities until your therapist deems you well enough, which may not be for 6-8 weeks.

After completing rotator cuff surgery, it often takes up to one year to regain full function of your shoulder. This doesn’t mean that your shoulder won’t be healed until then, but it does mean that you may not have full use of the affected muscles and tendons.

It’s important to note that this timeframe may be adjusted for different clients.

Within 4-8 weeks, you’ll gradually become strong and mobile enough to reintroduce many of your everyday activities into your routine, particularly if you work a sedentary job.

Clients who have strenuous, manual jobs and partake in high-impact physical activities may not be able to resume them as quickly and should seek advice from their therapist before doing so.

Your physiotherapist will work on several mobility and strength-enhancing exercises with you, some of which you’ll also complete at home. These may include:

  • Ankles circles
  • Calf stretches
  • One-leg stands
  • Heel raises
  • Ankle pumps

My mother had a great experience with Get Right Physio for 2 Years and like to share her thoughts with you... "I had the pleasure of receiving physiotherapy services from Sajicca and I cannot praise her enough. She visited me twice a month, always arriving with her mobile treatment bed, a warm smile and a genuine kindness. She massaged my leg with oil, taught me exercises patiently, and encouraged me every step of the way. Her professionalism, compassion and dedication made a huge difference in my recovery. She is truly caring young lady and I am grateful for her support. During Sajicca's absence, Betsy, an another young lady performed an excellent service as well. I highly recommend Get Right Physio services for anyone looking for a therapist who goes above and beyond."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had an excellent in-home treatment experience with my physiotherapist Tarun. I had severe pain in my left knee which was the cause of scar tissue formation after my TKR. I had a knee scopy to remove the scar tissue. Tarun was very professional, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely caring throughout my in-home treatment. She took the time to understand my concerns, explained everything clearly, and tailored the treatment to my specific needs. In a couple of weeks I started noticing improvements in my pain level, mobility and overall condition, and I always felt comfortable and well taken care of during my sessions. Her dedication and positive attitude made a big difference in my recovery. I would highly recommend "Get Right Physio" and Tarun to anyone looking for an experienced, compassionate, and effective physiotherapist. Thank you for all your help and support Tarun!
